Celebrating Chinese New Year in Verbier
Mark the special occasion your own way with a tailor-made party at your chalet!
★
Unlike Christmas or New Year’s Eve, which are huge affairs celebrated by the entire resort, you’re unlikely to know that Chinese New Year is taking place unless celebrating it.
That doesn’t mean to say Verbier can’t accomodate travellers wishing to mark the occasion. Our events team is on hand to arrange a bespoke celebration – simply brief us beforehand and if it’s remotely possible, we’ll make it happen.
Asked to create a few unusual ways for guests to celebrate the next Chinese New Year, which this year falls on Tuesday 5th February, our events team suggest tailor-making a ‘Pink Pig Party’, themed around 2019 being the Chinese zodiac’s Year of the Pig. This would involve a big hog roast cooked on your chalet’s balcony, plus an ice bar serving pink cocktails with a Chinese twist, and perhaps bottles of Tsingtao.
Other possibilities include a fortune-cookie baking workshop and zodiac-themed ice-carving or a zodiac-themed fancy-dress party, with attendees opting to dress as a dragon, tiger, rooster, sheep or, of course, a pig. We can also suggest a traditional Fondue Chinoise, a simmering pot of stock at the dining table, containing a variety of East Asian ingredients. This can either be in the chalet or we can recommend a local restaurant.
All themed parties like this could happen in the daytime, if preferred, or following a day of skiing. It’s all entirely up to you.
